Wear Ur World

There has been quite a bit of buzz in the last few days about Pranav Mistry and Pattie Maes‘ “Wear Ur World” presentation at TED. It’s a great system, and is definitely a step in the right direction for Augmented Reality. Wired has some good coverage. I still prefer the idea of confining virtual data and interfaces to a HUD and keeping it personal, but because see-through HMDs are still hard to come by, I think the use of a pico-projector is a nice stopgap solution. Tracking fingertips with colored markers (i.e. tape) is also a good solution for the moment, but still requires that your hand stay within your field of view and within a predefined interaction space for actions to be captured and executed. All in all, a very impressive demonstration.
